Common Questions
Can I get my credit report for free?
Beginning in 2003, a provision of the New Fair and Accurate Credit Transactions Act, requires the three major credit reporting agencies to provide consumers with a free copy of their own credit report every 12 months. This allows consumers, free of charge, to see what is on their credit report and make sure that everything is accurate.
You can request a copy of your free credit score report from AnnualCreditReport.com by phone, by mail or online. Go to AnnualCreditReport.com, call 1-877-322-8228, or fill out the Annual Credit Report Request form found on their website and mail it to Annual Credit Report Request Service, P.O. Box 105281, Atlanta, GA 30348-5281. It may take a few weeks for your free credit score report to arrive, so be patient.
There are a few other circumstances where you can get your credit report for free. If you've been denied a loan, insurance policy or job based on your credit report you can receive a free copy of your credit report from the bureau that provided the information. You can also get a free report if you're applying for unemployment or receive public assistance.
